| This space is for our Directors to present situations where the Director was called and the rulings they made. |
| In a recent game, E opened 1C. S passed. W bid 3C. N asked E what the 3C
bid meant, and E said it was a limit raise. N then bid 3S. E and S passed,
W bid 4C, and all passed. W then said E gave incorrect information. The 3C
bid was not a limit raise, but was weak. N called for the Director, and asked
if the bidding could be "rolled back" to the 4C bid, and continue from there... The Director ruled... Do not roll back the bidding to 4C, play it out. If N-S feel they are damaged by the result, an adjustment to the score can be made. |
| In a recent game, dealer opened 1N. Second seat opponent overcalled 2H. Bidding continued to a 3N contract. At the end of the bidding, overcaller said there was a failure by his partner to alert his bid... he has a 5 - 5 hand in hearts and spades. The hand was played, with declarer going down 2. Declarer then called the Director, claiming unauthorized information was given by overcaller to his partner when he described his hand... The Director ruled that unauthorized information had been given, and the score was adjusted to "making 3N". |
| In a recent 199er game, South was dealer. While South was evaluating his hand, North bid 1H. After a few moments, West called "Director, please." The Director came to help, and explained to East "First, you may choose to accept the bid and continue." East said "OK, I accept the bid." West asked "What if my partner doesn't accept the bid?" The Director said "I'm not sure. I'll have to look it up." East said "I accept" and play continued. South bid 3H, West passed, North bid 4H, and all passed. N played in 4H, making 5... tied for top for N/S. What if East did not accept? Law 31 - Bid Out of Rotation applies..."When the offender has bid at his partner's turn to call... offender's partner must pass whenever it is his turn to call... and lead penalties... may apply" |
